Jim's RV Center History
Jim's RV Center was founded as Jim's Sporting Goods in 1952 by Jim Jewell in a small store in downtown Waverly, New York. Jim Jewell started out selling sporting goods, guns, ammunition, and camping supplies. By the late 50's he ventured into the marine business with boats by MFG and Johnson outboard motors. In the early 60's Jim expanded his list of product brands to include tent campers and small travel trailers. By 1967 Jim's Sporting Goods needed more room for RV's and moved to a former car dealership in Sayre, Pennsylvania. At that point the name changed to Jim's Marine and Travel and continued to expand both RV and Marine sales. During the 70's and 80's Jim's three sons Scott, Todd, and Matt came into the business. The showroom was expanded, service and parts buildings constructed and more land was added. In 1986 Jim retired and sold the business to the boys.
In 2003 Jim's decided to change their product line exclusively to RV's and drop the marine portion of the business. It was at this point the company changed its name to Jim's RV Center. In 2004 the decision was made to find a larger location close to a highway that would allow our RV customers better access and provide room for continued growth. In 2005 Jim's purchased a 10-acre site in Nichols, NY within one tenth of a mile of exit 62 on Interstate 86. The existing 5,000 Sq. Ft. building was renovated as a sales and administration office. While the sales department and the rolling stock were moved to the new location in July 2005, the RV parts and service departments remained in operation at the Sayre location. In December of 2005 construction began on a 30,000 sq. ft. building that would be home to the RV parts and service departments, as well as a large showroom. The construction was completed in June of 2006, and the RV parts and service departments were moved from the Sayre location.
